Film Review: Collapse

Sunday evening after service, Sal and I went over to his house to watch a documentary recently released simultaneously in theaters and on demand: Collapse. Collapse tells the story of Michael Ruppert, a former LAPD cop and whistler blower-turned-investigative web reporter and author. Ruppert is the founder and editor of From The Wilderness, a newsletter and website dedicated to investigating political cover-ups.

Throughout the film, the consistently smoking Ruppert makes apocalyptic predictions that the world is on the verge of complete collapse. His main argument centers on the idea of peak oil, the concern raised by scientists since the seventies that the world will eventually run out of fossil fuel. Ruppert has much criticism for the Bush 43 administration, specifically Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld, and for their alleged role in not only ignoring the issue of peak oil, but for perpetuating the continued drive for continued fossil fuel consumption.

Overall, Collapse is an engaging film and worth the $3.99 VOD price. Not sure I buy everything Ruppert is selling, but at minimum it’s a great conversation starter. Here’s the trailer.
